A Week with Miss M

The big story the past few weeks with Miss M is her sleeping habits ... or lack of.  She started off sleeping pretty well after she was born, but in the past two months she has seriously regressed.  Each time we think we have a new way of getting her to sleep, she decides she doesn't like it any longer!  We have a number of tricks up our sleeve including swaddle, no swaddle, bink, no bink, on her back, on her stomach, in her car seat, in her crib, with music, without music.  The latest is to swaddle her and use the bink and music from the mobile when needed.  It used to be on her stomach with no swaddle worked.  The bink only works on occasion as she is more of a finger sucker.  During the day we can sometimes get her down in her crib, but the most she'll sleep is about 30 - 45 minutes.  The car seat works best during the day and she'll sleep for over an hour.  Pa's method of rocking her over the bump in the floor between the kitchen and the living room in her stroller works at 5 in the morning when she seems wide awake!  Otherwise, her nighttime waking is usually at 11pm (or 10pm tonight!) and then every 2-3 hours thereafter.  We have been trying to get into a routine with her by having 2-3 naps and the same bedtime, but it's awfully hard when she refuses to sleep!

Besides that, she's been pretty happy during the day!  She giggles when you kiss her cheeks and neck and blow raspberries on her.  She will also smile back at you when you smile ... if she's in a good mood.  Good moods normally last as long as you are holding her.  She still doesn't like to be put down in anything for longer than about 10 minutes ... if you're lucky.  When she's happy she also likes to squeal and talk to anyone who will listen.  She has a multi coloured ball that is easy to hold that will fascinate her for a short time.

Mummy and M have been going for a lot of walks when the weather is nice.  Our favourite walk is being put in the Bjorn and walking over to pick up Daddy and Chippy from school (or the Queen's House according to Chippy).

  1. That little girl is so busy learning about the world that she doesn't have time to sleep! This too will pass, and soon we'll be sleeping 8 hours at a time. (we'll hope!)

  2. Aahhhh.... the never ending quest for sleep!!! It is every parent's quest!! Then they hit the teen years and you can't dynamite them out of bed!!! She is such a precious beauty, how can you really mind a few restless hours??? Gotta love that she gets to go to the "Queen's House" on a regular basis!!! I'm jealous!!

  3. It's so unfortunate that she din't inherit the Bowers "nap-at-the-drop-of-a-hat" gene.... Yup, she just needs to see what's going on and doesn't want to miss a thing!
